FHF Marthas Rose
2002 sorrel mare Martha started on the racetrack with blazin breaks from the gates. We started her three times and all three times she was at or near the lead for a 150 yards or so. Not great for racing but we knew were it would help! Scott Bacon started Martha on barrels for us and rode her until late summer '05. She then went with Kay Young for a little while and won the 2D in the 2nd go at the Oklahoma City Juvenile Futurity. Chris Coffey took over from there. It took Martha a little while to settle down at the big shows. She didn't hold up too well at the Silver Cup, but Chris kept telling me she works great at home. She did come around and place 5th in the 1D out of 400 at the March Madness in MS and 12th in the 3 day average. The Gold Cup was another tough show for Martha. Maybe she just doesn't like it in Oklahoma. We considered selling our spot in the Ft Smith Futurity. Glad we didn't sell that spot at Ft. Smith. Martha qualified 13th fastest to go to finals there just missing getting into the 16's with 17.019. She had a tough go in the finals, but she proved she do it in a big pen too. Derek Hixon rode Martha for us the rest of the year and she placed 9th at the Quarter Horse Congress in the Jr Horse Barrels.
